Received this from the folks at CCVC and I wanted to make sure
you were aware of this and a few of us plans on going. Let me know if
you are interested in attending. Take a look at the Bills that are
presently in the works.
It is important to have as many Vets as
possible at the capitol on Feb
22 at 1:00 p.m. for the Veterans Day. If you go early you can roam the
halls and talk to a few legislators. Show up for the big event and
still be home by supper time.
The legislation will be considering bills pertaining to Vets. Remember
the ones Gary discussed?
NO to HB 1208 which removes the input by Veterans Service Organizations
and allows the Governor to appoint non-veterans to the War Veterans
Commission.
YES to HB 1916, 1623 and SB 44 the surviving widows exempt from taxes.
YES to SB 1055 authorizing OK Capital Improvement Authority to issue
notes, and bonds for $40 million for new ODVA building.
YES to HB 1555 and SB 501 (relates to this) creates specialized veteran
treatment courts to meet the needs faced by veterans and service member
defendants, directs judicial district courts to establish them.

We are also planning a Valentines Dinner on the 14th of February. It will be
at the Great Plains Coliseum in the Prairie Building. The menu will be
steak, $15.00 per person or chicken, $12.00 per person (your choice), baked
potato, green beans, salad and chocolate cake for dessert. It will start at
1830 for cocktails (beer or wine) and dinner will start at 1915. We will
have a guest speaker; Renae Sexton from Hospice. I will need RSVP’s by the
7th of February in order for me to send the numbers to Joe at the coliseum.
Make sure you specify your choices on the RSVP. This is an opportunity for us
to get out with our spouses and share some camaraderie with each other. It
should be a great evening.
Other than that, I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday and as
usual, if you know or have someone interested in joining the league, bring
them along. Also, if you have anything of unique interest to raffle off,
bring it with you.
Semper Fi,
Tom Durgin, Comandant
